Fun School Fun

Yesterday evening we went to a BBQ at fun school (aka School of Autism, Elliot's preschool). A major blast was had by all. Here is Elliot posing with his pipe cleaner flower in front of the sign outside the school (the sign was beautifully painted by one of the parents, Julie Freeman Swenson).

The school recently remodeled the basement of the early 1900s house that it calls home, and here are the results - a fabulous gym, including swings and physical therapy equipment, a dramatic play stage and pretend area, a circle time reading area, and several sensory stations.

The school last night was a flurry of action in the gym as well as outside in the yard. Even Imogen got in on the action. Here she is practicing her standing on the playhouse and having a peek-a-boo moment with Annica, the daughter of Sara, one of the two women who run the school.

And here is Elliot doing one of his favorite things these days - greeting or saying goodbye to people by spelling their names in sign language. He especially likes to spell the name of one of the parents, Tricia.

Last night he learned to sign Sara's name, as well.

Thanks to Sara and Donna for hosting such a wonderful event. It was great to finally meet some of the other parents and to just have a chance to hang out and chat and watch all the kids play together. I've said it dozens of times, but we are daily thankful for the role School of Autism plays in Elliot's life.

Happy 4th of July! Now we're off to another BBQ adventure!
